Lone Oak – Two Lone Oak Boy Scouts have received national medals for bravery. 18-year-old Eagle Scout Josh Click and Assistant Scout Master Jon Cartier of Greenville were presented the Boy Scouts of America Lifesaving Medal for Heroism. The award is one of the highest honors awarded by the Boy Scouts.
The medals were awarded after all of Lone Oak Troop 377 played part in rescuing three young girls and a woman while on a canoeing trip down the San Marcos River on Memorial Day. The girls had become tangled up in some vines in rushing water and one of the vines had clung onto the woman's neck. She was unable to escape and had exhausted herself trying to help the girls.
Troop 377 managed to untangle the three young girls and the woman and move them to shore. The troop then made sure the girls and the woman were safe and unharmed, and headed back down the river.
