A law that will expedite the federal permitting process for the Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir project has passed the House.
The Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (or WIIN) Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to finalize their reviews of the reservoir more urgently.
U.S. Representative Sam Johnson (R-3rd), one of the key architects of the bill, says that after a decade under federal review, the Lower Bois d'Arc project needs to get moving if Northeast Texas wants to stave off projected water shortages by 2021.
