Major crimes in Sulphur Springs down 15 percent through June

SULPHUR SPRINGS - Sulphur Springs Police are reporting a drop in crime over the first six months of the year compared to 2011.

The latest Uniform Crime Reports data, as published by the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram, shows there were 15 percent fewer major crimes reported from January through June.

Major crimes are considered homicide, sexual assault, robbery, assault, burglary, theft over $200 and motor vehicle theft. That category fell from 95 in the first half of 2011 to 81 in the first six months of 2012. 72 percent of those offenses accounted for property crimes.
