Man admits to setting fires in Van Zandt, Smith Counties

Van Zandt, Smith County – An alleged arsonist is apprehended after allegedly starting fires in Van Zandt and Smith Counties.

The subject was spotted and arrested just east of Willow Branch Road, where upon arrival, he admitted to starting about 15 separate fires in the region. It was also determined that the subject has had a history of mental health issues.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was transported to a mental health facility for further evaluation and treatment.

Van, Lindale and Ben Wheeler Fire Department's worked well into the evening to control several of the fires that were set by the suspect.
