Red River County – A Caddo Mills man is in custody on multiple charges after a shootout with police Saturday in Clarksville. 27 year old Jason Cohn Morris is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer. To add to that, he is also charged with evading arrest and criminal mischief.
The Red River County sheriff's office received a report of a man in a white Dodge truck traveling from Oklahoma that had been making threats of targeting police and sheriff's offices, saying he would shoot the first person to step out of the police department. Deputies made contact with the vehicle, and it sped away. The chase eventually ended when the man left the road and entered a field where he turned around and tried to ram two police units that were in pursuit. Officers managed to shoot the tires out on the truck and the vehicle became stuck in a ditch.
It was then that Morris exited the vehicle with a 12 gauge shotgun and fired two shots at the officers. Officers apprehended after he ran out of ammunition. Morris is being held in Red River County Jail on $750,000 bond.
