Man arrested for child negligence

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A Sulphur Springs man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning for abandoning or endangering his roommate's two young children. 38 year old Jeffrey Ray Julian Jr. was taken into custody after police received a report from the man's roommate who was unable to enter the shared residence upon returning from a trip to Oklahoma. The 26 year old woman had left her two boys ages 5 and 8 in Julian's care while she was gone. She called police after being unable to enter the residence for an extended period of time.

Unable to verify that the woman was a valid resident, police offered to take the woman somewhere to wait for Julian. In transit, Julian was found and told police he had gone to pick up a friend and left the children unattended. The children were found asleep in a locked bedroom back at the residence, which had few furnishings and trash and medicine containers strewn about. Julian was taken into custody and the children returned to their mother.
