Man charged in Commerce shooting

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Police are still looking for a motive in the shooting death of a Commerce man. 25 year old James Prothrow was shot and killed last week in the 600 block of 4th street in Commerce. At least three shots were fired from a 9mm automatic handgun during the incident, according to Commerce Police. One of the shots struck Prothrow and severed an artery in his chest, and he eventually bled to death.

25 year old Brian Ellis Patrick has been charged with first degree murder in the case. Patrick fled the scene after the shooting, and was later apprehended by the Hopkins County Sheriff. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

Graveside services for Prothrow are scheduled for 11am tomorrow at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
