Man facing jail time for illegal cell phone use

Greenville – A local man is in trouble for the illegal use of a cell phone.

James Keith Hayes, of Greenville, entered an open plea Tuesday to one count of improper photo or visual recording.

According to reports, a woman and her daughter were inside the Greenville Wal-Mart on of February 10 and observed Hayes using his cell phone to take photos of the child. The store's surveillance cameras reportedly captured Hayes committing the crime. He told investigators he had used his cell phone to take the photos on multiple occasions during the previous year.

Hayes is facing a maximum sentence upon conviction of from 180 days to two years in a state jail and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
