Man gets 10 years for using drugs around a toddler

By Kevin Jefferies

Lamar County – A 25 year old Cumby man has been sentenced in Lamar County to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $10,000 in fines for smoking and transporting methamphetamines around a child. A jury took only five minutes to return the guilty verdict for Micha Stotts for using the drug around his girlfriend's toddler. The mother, Deanna Pridemore, was sentenced to 6 years deferred adjudication probation for the same offense in 2005.

In October of 2004, the child was taken to a Dallas hospital with injuries consistent with shaking the child. Stotts was arrested two days later and charged with transporting more than 100 grams of methamphetamine from Choctaw County to Lamar County. He was arrested on warrants for endangering a child in May 2005.

The child now lives with his biological father's parents.
