Man identified in Greenville hostage case

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – A man recently arrested following a reported hostage situation in Greenville has been identified.

Phillip Michael Davis was formally booked in and arraigned at the Hunt County Criminal Justice Center Thursday morning, with bail set at $100,000.

Davis was arrested Wednesday morning, following a three-hour hostage standoff in the 3600 block of Washington Street.

Davis is charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Intent to Commit Assault. Both Davis and the victim, Sharon Giddins, were taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center following the incident. The status and condition of Giddins, who was later transferred to Baylor Hospital in Dallas, was unknown as of Thursday.

As Greenville officers responded to the scene Wednesday, they found Davis barricaded in the house with Giddens. Davis told the officers that he was armed. The Greenville Police Department Tactical Team and Crisis Intervention Unit were dispatched to the scene and began negotiations.

The situation ended peacefully shortly after 11 a.m., when the suspect agreed to release the victim and surrender to police.
