Man rejects plea bargain in shooting case

By Brad Kellar

Hunt, Rockwall County – A local man accused of shooting an officer has refused a plea bargain arraignment. Johnny Joe Webb, of Royse City, has pleaded not guilty on seven counts of attempted capital murder. During a hearing Monday a judge set a trial date for May 4, after the Hunt County District Attorney's office announced Webb had "rejected all offers" in the case. Webb has also been tested to determine whether he is mentally competent to stand trial on the charges. The indictments allege Webb acted with "the specific intent to commit the offense of capital murder" on firing upon seven separate law enforcement officers last November. Webb was hospitalized for almost two months after he was shot by officers answering a call at a residence near the Hunt/Rockwall County line. The officers alleged Webb fired on them first.
