Marijuana bust along Interstate 30

By Scott Harvey

Greenville, Royse City – Over 40 pounds of marijuana is seized following a recent traffic stop on Interstate 30 near Greenville.

On Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m., Officer Robert Pemberton was contacted by the Royse City Police Department to assist with a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 30 near the 83 mile marker.

A van with Iowa license plates had been stopped for a traffic violation. The occupants, Antonio Lerma, of Donna, Texas, and Iselda Pena, of Weslaco, Texas gave consent to search the vehicle.

When consent was given to search the vehicle, officers discovered fresh tooling marks around the gas tank. K-9 Ceiko was then deployed who gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics.

The vehicle was towed to the Greenville Police Department where additional tooling marks were discovered. The tank was dropped and 42 vacuum sealed one-pound bricks of suspected marijuana were discovered.

Both Lerma and Pena were arrested by the Royse City Police Department and each charged with possession of marijuana over five pounds and under 50 pounds.
