May 13 marks anniversary of major storm

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Thursday marks the 25th anniversary of one of the worst storms to hit the region, causing major damage especially in Greenville.

Much of downtown Greenville was left in ruins on May 13, 1985, as at least one and as many as two tornados struck locally. Nine people were injured, none seriously, although hundreds of structures were either destroyed or heavily damaged.

The National Weather Service listed the storms which hit Greenville and portions of Dallas, Ellis and Rockwall counties that day as the biggest weather story in north Texas during that spring.
