May groundbreaking for new <BR> A.C. Williams elementary school

By Scott Harvey

Commerce –

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new A.C. Williams Elementary School in Commerce have been set. The Commerce School Board Friday also gave approval to W.B. Kibler Construction Company not to exceed a guaranteed maximum price of $12,499,807 in total costs.

Commerce residents overwhelmingly approved the $14 million bond package to build a new elementary school last May, which will house third through fifth graders. According to CISD Director of Personnel and Communications Ludonna Smithers, the remaining moneys following construction will allow for the purchase of the buildings furnishings.

Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, May 15 at 1:30 p.m. The new A.C. Williams Elementary School will be built across from the Commerce Middle School on Culver Street. Completion is projected for fall 2009.
