May sales tax figures released

By Brad Kellar, Scott Harvey

A recent report finds lots of buying and selling was conducted at several Greenville businesses in May.

The strong month helped local retailers set a new record for sales tax revenue.

The report issued Wednesday by the Texas Comptroller's Office also revealed how Greenville is again enjoying an increase in sales tax revenue for the year so far, when compared to the same point in 2007

Greenville will receive a July sales tax payment of more than $455,000 representing an increase of nearly 10 percent when compared to July 2007 figures.

Area cities also performed well, with Commerce receiving just over $85,000 sales tax payment. That represents a 4% increase from what was received a year ago.

Both Sulphur Springs and Paris received a just over 5% increase, while Bonham showed a more than 6% increase over the same timeframe.
