Recently more than 3,500 mayors, county and tribal leaders throughout the United States participated in the fourth annual Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service to recognize volunteers.

Volunteers – they are the unsung heroes among us. Every day, they quietly and humbly go about the business of improving the quality of life in our community. Volunteers in RSVP’s four county service area were recognized.

Local elected officials who honored community volunteers were Mayors A.J. Hashmi (Paris), Phillip Rutherford (Roxton), Scotty Stegall (Cooper), Ann Rushing (Clarksville), Vincent Lum (Bogata), and Kayla Price (Sulphur Springs); Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville; Red River County Judge L.D. Williamson; and the Lamar County Commissioners and Hopkins County Commissioners who signed proclamations to honor these volunteers.

This was a perfect way to observe National Volunteer Week, April 10-16.

For more information on the various service activities that are available, please contact RSVP at 903.782.0441.

RSVP is sponsored by Paris Junior College and locally funded by the United Way of Lamar County.
