men awarded after helping bring in bank robber

By Kevin Jefferies

Paris, Texas – Two men who helped bring in a bank robber in Paris last month have been rewarded. The People's Bank in Paris has awarded Bryce Chambers and Johnny Piper each $500 for actions leading to the arrest of a bank robber that made off with about $14,000 in April.

Chambers was on the scene when the robbery occurred and was able to follow the suspect immediately after the incident. Chambers provided police with detailed descriptions of the robber, a female companion, the truck used to flee the scene, and the license plate number of the truck. Chambers also followed the man on bicycle for a distance providing police with last know location.

The information helped police spot the truck quickly, resulting in a chase that ended in a field where police lost the suspect.

Later, Johnny Piper shot 32 year old Michael Hammonds in the legs after the suspect crossed his property with several tracking dogs around him. Hammond's pockets were stuffed full of cash.

The actions of both men helped end a four hour manhunt for the suspect that involved several area law enforcement agencies.
