Wednesday morning’s drug sting in Delta County was more effective than expected, said Sheriff Ricky Smith. The operation resulted in arrests of 24 people, who were charged with a total of 35 violations.
“This effort was specifically directed at illegal drugs in Delta County," Smith said. "Illegal drugs and abuse of alcohol directly relate to almost 80 percent of our overall crime problem ... we have an epidemic of illegal drugs in this country and law enforcement needs to take a firm stand in its eradication.”
The arrests followed a four-month undercover investigation by the Sulphur Springs/Hopkins County Special Crimes Unit in conjunction with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith said that there remain four active warrants connected to the operation.
