– More education dollars have been allocated throughout the region as part of $830 million in federal funding for Texas schools.
The application had been delayed in Washington for the past nine months as a result of an anti-Texas provision written by U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett.
Schools in Regions 8 and 10, which make up a large section of Northeast Texas, accounted for roughly $20 million.
Allocation amounts were calculated based on weighted average daily attendance (WADA). State Representative Dan Flynn says he's not comfortable with the method by which schools receive funding, but understands the importance of getting the funds to districts so they may avoid teacher layoffs and provide maximum classroom support.
