RICHARDSON - A Van Zandt County man has been identified as one of the victims of the fatal crane collapse at the University of Texas at Dallas over the weekend.

50-year-old Terry Weaver of Grand Saline was killed when the crane toppled during what authorities believe was a high burst of wind. Also killed was 58-year-old Thomas Fairbrother, Jr. His hometown was not immediately known.

KDFW-TV reports the crane was being dismantled on the construction site of the campus’ new Arts and Technology Building at the time of the collapse.

UTD officials report on their website that student leaders are organizing a Moment of Reflection at noon Wednesday on the campus mall to honor the two construction workers.

“This is a way in which we can honor the deceased and show our respect to the families of those who lost their loved ones. It also is an opportunity for us to grieve as a community,” said Dr. Gene Fitch, dean of students.

Classes at the university are continuing as normal. University counseling services are available free of charge to the UT Dallas community.
