More charges filed in Sulphur Springs dragging

By Kevin Jefferies

Sulphur Springs – A 25 year old Hopkins County man has been indicted on new charges stemming from a bar fight where he allegedly dragged a man down the road causing massive facial injuries. Judson Talbert Weaver was indicted Monday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and failure to stop and render aid. Weaver has previously been arrested for aggravated assault, and posted bond.

He allegedly assaulted 26 year old Christopher Wright after a verbal altercation at a bar at the Days Inn in Sulphur Springs. The altercation led to Wright leaning into Weaver's GMC Yukon, and Weaver grabbing him and taking off. Wright was dragged a short distance the fell out of the car and injured his face.

The case was originally suspected to be racially motivated, with Weaver reportedly making remarks about Wright, a black man, and his white girlfriend. Texas Rangers testified that they found no evidence the crime was racially motivated.
