More water conservation measures taken locally

FRANKLIN COUNTY - The Franklin County Water District has enacted a drought contingency plan because Lake Cypress Springs has dropped to 81 percent normal capacity.

The plan calls for voluntary conservation in indoor and outdoor water usage. The move comes as several other area water districts and municipalities are enacting water restrictions, some more strict that others, due to low lake levels.

The City of Commerce is currently in Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan, while officials in Greenville have implemented Stage 3 restrictions.

And beginning November 1, the North Texas Municipal Water District will initiate Stage 3 measures, calling for a 10% reduction in water use and increased awareness. The District receives raw water supplies from Lavon Lake, Jim Chapman/Cooper Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni, and Lake Bonham for treatment and distribution to the region served.
