Lamar County – A Lamar County girl died Sunday when she drowned in a pond behind the home of her great-grandmother. 5 year old Ashantay Gray Bouchon fell into the pond shortly after noon on Mother's Day. Her mother, Taneesha Gray, is a dispatcher for the Lamar County Sheriff and was on duty at the time.
Ashantay's grandmother was working in a field and her great-grandmother was inside the house working when they first missed the girl. The found her blue flip-flop on the end of a dock on the pond, and called emergency personnel.
The girl's body was found after a search. She was pronounced dead at 2:55pm. Funeral services are pending.
