MSC Closed-Student services uniterrupted

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Texas A&M University-Commerce experienced a small fire in a main electrical panel at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center (MSC) this morning, which terminated electrical power to the student center and the university's business administration building. The fire was restricted to the electrical panel area, was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. Workers on site hope to return power back to the student center soon as possible. The student center will remain closed until power is returned.

The university's student affairs office responded quickly by working closely with the university police department and the on-campus food service, Sodexho, to provide meals for students holding meal tickets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served on Friday, January 18 as well as lunch and dinner on Saturday, January 19 at the regular times.

A light breakfast will be available at the campus Bistro located in the first floor of the library Friday morning. Lunch and dinner will be served at the Field House on Friday and again on Saturday at the regular meal times.

Emergency mail pick up can be coordinated through the campus police department.

Classes will be conducted at the normal times on Friday and over the weekend and the East Texas Bookstore will be open during regular hours on Friday.

For more information, parents and students can contact the student affairs office at 903.886.5084
