Multiple charges dropped as doctor gets probation

SULPHUR SPRINGS - Longtime Sulphur Springs’ physician Dr. Don O’Neal has received ten years of deferred adjudication probation after pleading guilty to misapplication of fiduciary property.

District Judge Robert Newsom issued the ruling Wednesday.

The remaining 60 counts of the indictment against him were dismissed. They included multiple counts of allegedly writing prescriptions for specific substances after having relinquished his license, and for allegedly delivering controlled substances to patients in his office.

A restitution hearing is pending. O’Neal could still face charges related to a probe by the Texas Attorney General’s investigation.
