New A.C. Williams Elementary School project update

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The new A.C. Williams Elementary School in Commerce is on schedule. The information was presented Monday to the Commerce School Board by Claycomb Associates Architects and W.B. Kibler Construction Company.

All foundation piers are now in place. Crews are currently installing grade beams around the perimeter of the foundation, while utilities are also continuing to be installed.

Overall, construction is still a small percentage of the way complete, but officials noted the weather has not had any negative effects on the project's timetable.

Commerce residents overwhelmingly approved the $14 million bond package to build a new elementary school last May, which will house third through fifth graders. Completion is projected for fall 2009.
