New A&M-Commerce assistant football coaches

By Bill Oliver/Danny Kambel A&M-Commerce Sports Information

Commerce, TX – Texas A&M University-Commerce head football coach Scotty Conley has announced the addition of two new assistants...defensive coordinator David Gibbs and secondary coach Cedric Dickerson.

David Gibbs returns to the college game after spending the last nine years as a defensive coordinator at John Tyler and Beaumont Ozen high schools. He was also defensive coordinator at Princeton, Jasper, and Canton high schools. In-between, Gibbs spent seven years at Stephen F. Austin University where he was defensive tackle coach and recruiting coordinator and before that was a second-team All-American defensive lineman for the Lumberjacks. Gibbs' move to Commerce follows word that his former boss, John Tyler head coach Thomas Brooks, is going to Jasper High to become head coach and Athletic Director.

Cedric Dickerson comes to Commerce from the Canadian Football League, where he played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was also active off the field as a motivational speaker and for organizations that targeted underprivileged children. Dickerson played collegiately at Valdosta State in Georgia, where he was a regional All-American and three time all-Gulf South Conference selection as the Blazers won conference titles.
