New apartments to be occupied soon

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Apartments currently under construction in Commerce are less than a month from being occupied, according to building's owner Michael Oglesby.

The buildings, located on the northeast corner of Monroe and Hunt Streets, includes both one bedroom and multiple-family dwellings, and will also have commercial/office space.

Oglesby is hoping for a sandwich/salad type business to inhabit about 1,600 square feet, leaving another 800 square feet for an additional business. He says some businesses have already taken notice in the site, and he expects more interest once the buildings are complete. Oglesby also feels the location will be a big plus, situated across the street from Texas A&M University-Commerce and university-owned Prairie Crossing Apartments.

The last of all plumbing is expected to be complete by the end of the week, with air conditioning to be installed by the end of next week. Grass is scheduled to be laid around the foundation today, with trees to be planted as well.

According to Oglesby, apartments should be finished and ready to rent out by August 1.
