New Commerce High Principal named

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX – In a news release from CISD Director of Personnel and Communications Ludonna Smithers:

Mitchell Curry has been named principal of Commerce High School for the 2007-2008 school year. Curry has been the principal of Commerce Middle School for the last two years.

Citing improvements in the academic success of all students at CMS and Curry's ability to create an orderly environment where students and staff can flourish, Commerce ISD Interim Superintendent Wilburn O. Echols Jr. announced the reassignment Wednesday during a faculty and staff meeting at CHS.

Curry will begin meeting with staff and students soon to seek their input as plans are made for the coming school year. Interim Principal Danna Myers will continue serving there for the remainder of this school year.

Prior to being named CMS principal, he was an assistant principal at Wylie High School for three years. Curry began his teaching career as a band director in Timpson ISD and has been an assistant band director at Waxahachie, Mesquite and Wylie High Schools.

Curry received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1991 and his Masters of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2003. He has also completed his superintendent's certification.

The search for a new Commerce Middle School principal will begin soon.
