New Councilman sworn in for Commerce; Belcher remains Mayor Pro Tem

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce City Council swore in a new council member last night in regular session. Hector Arce replaces outgoing Quay Throgmorton, who did not run for a second term. Arce previously served on the council, taking over a one year unexpired term, and looks to the challenges ahead.

ARCE: It's an exciting time here in Commerce. We're going to see alot of growth, and I hope that the city's going to grow along with it, as far as building and surrounding areas (are concerned). There's alot of expansion going on. I hope we can accomodate it all. I guess that's part of the budget, also. We're going to see how much this expansion's going to cost us.

Council member Penny Belcher will remain as Mayor Pro-Tem, keeping a position that has traditionally been rotated among council members. John Sands nominated Belcher to remain in the position, citing the interest of continuity in a time of change for the City of Commerce. Sands also replaces Kay Sanders as the Ex Officio Member to the Commerce Economic Development Corporation.
