New regulations approved in naming streets

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville officials approve a new way to name city streets.

The Council voted Tuesday to approve the creation of the policy, which was developed after the Council tabled a measure in March to rename Dent Road to Roy Warren Parkway in honor of its former mayor.

To rename a street, under the proposal, an application can be in the form of a petition signed by no less than 75 percent of all owners of property abutting the street in question. It can also be signed by an authorized officer or attorney representing a governmental subdivision, agency or department.

The completed application would be subject to a review by city staff, then the appropriate Council subcommittee and then be scheduled for a hearing before the full Council.
