New scholarships offered at A&M-Commerce

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Now available online is a complete breakdown of several new scholarships being offered at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

The initiative, proposed by the university's Strategic Enrollment Management Committee, provides current and new transfer students and employees the chance to take advantage.

The money is available to A&M-Commerce through an incentive funding initiative provided by the State of Texas, where schools are awarded additional dollars for meeting certain criteria. The scholarship dollars will be made available during the winter mini and spring semesters only, as the money awarded to the university by the state must be spent by next fall.

Committee member and Dean of Enrollment and Retention Stephanie Holley says the goals of the "Money 4 Me" campaign are to return as much state funding as possible to students, reduce their financial load and increase credit hour production.

Under the Winter Mini initiative, undergraduate juniors or seniors seeking one upper division course (300 or 400 level) can receive coverage on tuition and all fees. New graduate students can receive from $750-1500 if taking a minimum of six credit hours, plus other criteria. Continuing graduate students can receive from $750-$1,000 based on number of credit hours and additional criteria.

New transfer students at A&M-Commerce during the spring semester can receive $1,000 if taking a minimum of six credit hours, an additional $650 for nine credits and an additional $1,300 for taking 12 credit hours.

The Pride Promise initiative guarantees tuition costs for those who've completed their FAFSA, are pell grant eligible and have an adjustable gross income of $30,000 or less. Additional criteria must also be met. That information is available through the A&M-Commerce Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

There are two categories through the Lifelong learning section: Individuals ages 65 or older (Silver Leos) and current faculty and staff at A&M-Commerce. All tuition and mandatory fees are covered.

Additional information on all scholarships and how to register is available by clicking on the money logo located both through the KETR and A&M-Commerce homepage, or at http://money4me.tamuc.com/.
