Cooper may be getting a new slaughter house.
A proposal by Hway Meats, Inc. for a slaughter house west of the Sunbelt-Turret Steel Plant on Highway 64 in Cooper was presented to the Cooper City Council Monday night.
At a construction cost of $500,000, the beef, goat and sheep meat processing operation will bring 12 to 15 jobs and meet USDA and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements. Approximately 15,000 gallons of water will be utilized at the plant each day.
The facility will process for the public, sell meats to wholesale grocery and restaurant companies, and provide a local outlet to sell meats directly to the public. Thus far no land has been purchased, but the proposed area is zoned for this type of operation.
