New technology helps with TAKS assessments

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce ISD is using new technology to help teachers and administrators identify testing areas which need improvement in as little as 24 hours. A Monday meeting to examine benchmark testing for the spring Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills reading test gave the Commerce ISD School Board the opportunity to hear of a report about the new technology. The web-based management system allows school personnel to access benchmark indicators in as little as 24 hours after teachers have given an assessment. Previously, such reports would not be available for days.

The district uses the benchmarks to gauge how prepared students are for spring testing. Commerce officials expressed positive remarks about preparations, and were especially proud of the 10th grade reading results, where 90% of the students passed the benchmark.
