Nitrite Levels Back to Normal in Commerce
COMMERCE - The City of Commerce has issued notice to rescind the advisory for high nitrites in the drinking water. The water delivered to homes in the city has been deemed safe.
Commerce Utilities Director Bryan Creed said in an email to KETR that new water samples were taken to be tested on December 10th, and that the tests indicated water was safe to consume for all ages.
On December 3rd, the city was compelled by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to issue an advisory to residents about high nitrite levels which, at the time, were speculated to be due either to a nitrite deposit in the water source or nitrite runoff associated with agriculture in the area.
