No action regarding alleged threats in Speaker's race

Austin – The House General Investigating Committee declines to take action over allegations of threats in the House Speakers race citing a lack of hard evidence.

Mineola Republican Representative Bryan Hughes says the threat was made in a phone conversation with Sherman Republican Larry Phillips and dealt with members being redistricted out of office if they didn't vote for current speaker Joe Strauss's reelection.

Phillips, who represents the citizens of District 62, says he never made such a threat.

The Committee says without evidence like a recording of the conversation there isn't enough evidence to move forward.

District 62 is comprised of Fannin and Grayson counties.
