No 'Smart Meters' for Greenville citizens

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville residents are being assured none of the homes there are hooked up to "Smart Meters," which are the source of controversy across the state.

GEUS, the local electric utility system, does not plan to implement them for residences in Greenville at this time, but does have some installed on industrial customers.

Oncor is installing the smart meters across its service, which are designed to track electricity usage in a home or business remotely. But many homeowners with the meters say their monthly bills have skyrocketed.

GEUS officials said, however, that while they have no immediate plans to install the meters, that doesn't mean they won't be switching to them in the future.
