No word yet on possible recount in Hunt County

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – We're still waiting word on a possible recount from Tuesday's election in Hunt County.

There was no word Wednesday on whether a recount will be sought in the race for Hunt County Commissioner, Precinct 1 between Republican Mike Pierce and Democratic incumbent Kenneth Thornton. Pierce lost to Thornton by a total of 10 votes out of more than 6,700 votes cast, according to the final unofficial election returns. Pierce said he was unsure early Wednesday morning whether he would consider seeking a recount.

The Hunt County Commissioners Court is scheduled to canvass the election returns and make them official next Wednesday. Hunt County Elections Administrator Mina Cook says if he wants to, Pierce can take a little longer to make a decision.
