Officials to canvass election results in days and weeks ahead

The weekend saw several new citizens elected to office while other cities brought back incumbents for another term.

Commerceand Greenvillewere among area cities to select new mayors, while citizens chose to bring back mayors in Honey Grove and Ladonia for another term.

In Fannin County, residents approved three bond propositions, one of which had eluded the Bonham ISDfor the past four years. After failing on a couple of bond packages at nearly $30 million, roughly 70 percent of citizens Saturday voted in favor of a $7 million bond toward improvements to I.W. Evans Intermediate. In Trenton, citizens approved the sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed drinks.

Elsewhere throughout the region, the Paris Junior CollegeBoard of Regents selected new members as did the Huntand Hopkins Countyhospital districts. And officials in Leonard will consider this week how to fill the second vacancy on its council, which ended in a tie Saturday.
