Officials confirm tornado in Hopkins County

By Scott Harvey

– Hopkins County officials are confirming yesterday's storm that pushed through the county was in fact a tornado.

Two people were reported injured from flying debris and were transported to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Interstate 30 near Sulphur Springs was closed for awhile after winds damaged three mobile homes and toppled two tractor-trailer rigs. In a press release, Hopkins County Judge Cletis Millsap noted the need for a weather warning system in the Miller Grover area.

A tornado is also believed to have caused extensive damage in Van Zandt County, where multiple homes in rural areas northeast of Canton were reported damaged. At least two trucks and several signs toppled and the roof of a convenience store damaged Highway 19 and Interstate 20.
