Officials highlight impact of broadband access

By Scott Harvey

– A regional agency presented additional information Tuesday on its plan to obtain $25 million in stimulus funds to bring broadband internet access to Northeast Texas counties.

The Ark-Tex Council of Governments says this will not only enhance communications, but bring short term jobs to build the broadband infrastructure and long term jobs by letting prospective companies know broadband is available.

They hope to know just how much money they'll receive for the project within the next 30 to 60 days.

Nationwide, there is $7 billion available in stimulus funds to expand broadband services in rural areas.
