Officials, students gear up for Mane Event

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Prospective students and their families will embark upon the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce campus this Saturday for Mane Event Preview Day.

The event, held each spring and fall, attracted over 1,000 individuals last year.

"We want to showcase all the programs and activities, the academic areas, the clubs and organizations. We just want to give people the flavor of this campus," says Stephanie Holley, dean of enrollment and retention.

The day includes a breakfast, lunch, and information sessions on financial aid, scholarships and residence life. Academic sessions, or mock classes will also be held, plus an information fair that allows you to communicate with any and all academic departments and student organizations.

"It's an opportunity for the student to see if they feel like they'd fit here," Holley said. "As they're making decisions about where they'd like to attend college, we know that's it's important for them to be comfortable as well as their families. This gives us that opportunity."

The event has attracted area juniors and seniors, plus high school and transfer students from throughout Texas and neighboring states.

Saturday's event begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with scholarship drawings at 1:30 p.m. from the Sam Rayburn Student Center. More information is available at http://web.tamu-commerce.edu/admissions/explore/maneEvent/default.aspx.

Last fall, A&M-Commerce experienced its largest enrollment total in school history. According to the official 12th day class numbers, the University listed 10,813 students in the fall, a 12.29 percent increase from fall 2009.
