One killed in Tuesday accident in Franklin County

Dike – A Dike man is killed Tuesday after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 67 just west of Mount Vernon.

The Sulphur Springs News Telegram reports officials with Franklin County and the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the crash site at around 7:17 p.m. Tuesday.

Upon arrival they found a white male, later identified as Jonathan Craver Offutt, of Dike, had been thrown off his wrecked motorcycle. Troopers noted in their accident report that he had apparently lost control of the bike, causing the crash. Offutt was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other details were immediately available.

A second crash also Tuesday evening in Dike resulted in a woman being flown to an area trauma center after her vehicle overturned on County Road 3542.

Nikki Robinson was said to be pulling out of a driveway with Josh Curtis, when the vehicle went into the ditch, then struck a mailbox. The vehicle veered across the road and overturned as it left the road and struck a fence. Three witnesses reportedly pushed the car over the fence into the field behind it to prevent it from pinning the woman beneath it, according to witnesses.

A medical helicopter landed in the field near the crashed vehicle, and Robinson was transported to an area trauma center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Curtis appeared to have sustained only minor injuries. A cut on his forehead and lacerations on his leg were visible.
