Over 650 cigarette packages recovered in Greenville arrest

GREENVILLE - A Dallas man is under arrest after found in possession of hundreds of cigarette packages believed stolen from a Greenville business Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a burglary call at around 3:17 a.m. in the 700 block of Joe Ramsey Boulevard where they found that a rear window of the business had been broken out. The manager of the business reported that a large quantity of cigarettes had been stolen.

Shortly before 9:00 a.m., investigators contacted a subject on Highway 50 near Cumby and recovered over 650 packages of cigarettes. The suspect, a 33-year-old black male, was taken into custody. He had reportedly been temporarily staying in the Cumby area.

Police Chief Dan Busken said, “It is encouraging to see the community and the police department acting together to solve crime in Greenville.”
