Paris and Emory to canvas election results

By Scott Harvey

Paris, Emory – Both Lamar and Rains County Commissioners meet Wednesday to canvas the results from Saturday's election.

Certifying the election results will allow convenience stores and grocery stores in the Paris and Emory City limits to sell beer and wine as soon as they get a state license.

Paris voters passed both measures to sell mixed beverages at restaurants and beer and wine at local stores by a 57 percent and 54 percent tally, respectively.

Emory citizens passed the same two ballot items with 69 and 68 percent voting for the measures. Those results will also be made official by Rains County Commissioners Wednesday.

Reno voters rejected a similar ballot item Saturday with 65 percent voting against the proposition.
