Paris city attorney resigns

By Kevin Jefferies

Paris, Texas – The City Attorney for Paris turned in his resignation yesterday under fire. Larry Schenk has been the City Attorney in Paris for the past six years. The letter of resignation indicates a lack of support from the city council but did thank past and present council members and citizens, calling Paris the "...best small town in Texas".

Schenk had come under fire recently during employee evaluations when several council members laid blame for a mistake that cost the city nearly $200,000. It was an ordinance concerning retirement benefits for city employees that did not get written and enacted in time to save the city money for the year. Schenk said he had not received all the paperwork necessary to construct the ordinance.
