Paris Council to regulate alcohol sales

By Scott Harvey

Paris – The Paris City Council is scheduled Tuesday night to discuss a proposed ordinance to regulate alcohol sales within city limits.

The item follows a May 9 vote to allow beer and wine sales in stores and mixed drinks in restaurants. Both measures passed by 54% and 57% of voters, respectively.

Tuesday's meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the City Council Chamber, 107 E. Kaufman St.

Voters in Emory also earlier this month voted in favor the same two items, while Wills Point became the first city in Van Zandt County to approve the legal sale of beer and wine. Reno was the only city locally to reject the beer and wine proposition.

Last November, Greenville citizens voted in favor of going wet and have since established regulations on where and when those beverages can be sold.
