Paris ISD Official to Lead Association of Texas Professional Educators

AUSTIN - Deann Lee assumed the role of state president of the Association of Texas Professional Educators August 1.

Lee, director of state/federal programs with the Paris Independent School District, has been an ATPE member for more than 20 years. She has previously served the association as state vice president, secretary and state treasurer.

The 24-year education veteran has also served on numerous ATPE state committees and as president of Paris ATPE.

“With elections, state education funding, reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the upcoming legislative session, educators have multiple opportunities to positively affect the five million schoolchildren of Texas,” Lee says. “My goal is to challenge others to create the change and not sit back as bystanders.”

Lee’s term as ATPE president will run through 2013.

From ATPE:

The Association of Texas Professional Educators is the preeminent educators’ association in Texas and the largest nonunion educators’ group nationwide. Its membership consists of classroom teachers, para-educators, administrators, college students and retired educators.
