Paris likely to enact mandatory water restrictions

By Kevin Jefferies

Paris, Texas – Citizens in Lamar County may soon be joining others in Northeast Texas under mandatory watering restrictions. Paris officials say levels at Lake Crook and Pat Mayse reservoirs are at 71% and are expected to reach 70% soon, which will trigger Stage Two of drought contingency plans.

Paris is currently in Stage One of drought contingency, which asks for voluntary cutbacks in water usage. Those voluntary measures will become mandatory in Stage Two. City water customers can expect to receive mailings that list specific restrictions, which allow outdoor watering only at certain times on certain days.

Paris officials say the move will likely come at the next regular council meeting on August 28th.
