"Party in the Park" to benefit future skatepark

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce SkatePark Project is hosting a "Party in the Park" Saturday to benefit the organization's plans for a skating facility.

The event will be held at Centennial Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features a BBQ sandwich lunch, live entertainment and a bounce house for kids. A $5 minimum donation is requested to attend.

The group is looking to create an all cement skatepark, estimated to cost as much as $200,000, to serve as a venue for skateboarding, rollerblading and biking. The Commerce City Council, who gave formal approval for the facility in December, has pledged to match the first $5,000 raised.

All donations $250 and under can be accepted and deducted as a charitable donation.
